Lucky Pennies.

Something that I have become rather fond of doing over the last couple of years is to every so often take a shiny penny and find somewhere to put it down, head side up, in the day. Usually I wait until I feel a certain vibe or energy and set it there. It's actually really fun. :) And if I see a penny already on the ground, tail side up, I flip it so that it becomes lucky.

I know it might be a little silly to do. But as a little kid and even young teen I always loved finding a penny head side up because it was a lucky penny. I have never had terribly great luck, not really. So finding a lucky penny made me feel like I was in for an awesome rest of the day! :D That wasn't always the case, but it was a  nice little smile and thought. :)

So now that I'm older, I like to set a shiny penny down for someone to find and give them a smile - who knows, maybe it'll even bring a little good luck with it? ;) I do a shiny penny because those ones are more noticeable. And that's part of why I don't do this on even a weekly basis; you don't always get shiny pennies. Just sometimes. At least, in my experience. Plus I wait for a good feeling and for the thought to cross my mind to put one down. :) So sometimes it might be two pennies in a week or even a day - and sometimes it will be weeks or months between pennies. But it is a fun thing to do. :D

After being trapped indoors for so many months...the first penny that I was able to go outside and set down was actually right outside the front door, not too far off from our mailbox by the sidewalk. It made me really excited because we live about a block down from an elementary school, and I know that there are a few families that walk past our house after school. I hope it was able to make one of those kids happy. :D

Anyway, that's my post for the day. And the thought to go with it, I guess, is that sometimes the greatest joy you can give yourself is to do something small for someone you don't know. If it's something similar to lucky pennies, you won't get to see any effects it might have. In fact, a lot of the time when we do something for someone we don't know - we don't get to see the effect.

Sometimes there is something immediate; like if you see someone begging on the side of the road, for example, if you go and get them a sandwich and give it to them, you'll hopefully get to see a smile. :)

A high school acquaintance from a school club I was part of the presidency in...we were in the big city where I am located attending either a national or a regional conference. He had an extra sandwich or two. He'd packed them for dinner, but the presidency all pitched in to get dinner at a restaurant. As we were coming back that night, we passed a homeless man sitting on a bench, out in the cold. This acquaintance once we got back, turned to our adviser and asked if he could get his sandwiches and go back to this homeless man and give them to him. He said he didn't need them and that he really wanted to do it. He got permission and ran off. Our adviser told the rest of us she was worried that the man wouldn't be thankful at all. The acquaintance returned some minutes later, smiling. He had sat and talked with the man while he ate the sandwiches, and it had been a good experience for him.

That acquaintance probably never saw that homeless man again, but I know he made an impression. How often does someone stop like that to not just feed one of these individuals, but to talk to them? I think most people just toss some change at them and keep going. And that moment has stuck with me, even though it was a few years ago. It was very touching. I always knew that this acquaintance was a great person, but it was just amazing to see that sincerity and concern for others in action.

It might have been around that time, actually, that I started the pennies. I'm not sure. It wouldn't surprise me if seeing his kindness inspired my tradition. :) And I'm not 100% sure what gave me the idea to start leaving lucky pennies in random locations. But I know that it's a simple thing to do. I don't get to see the people pick it up, and the pennies probably don't really make a difference to any of these people in the long-run...but I still feel good when I do it, and I know that for at least a moment it will bring a smile to a stranger's face. Who knows? Maybe even a smile that they need in that moment.

So, dear reader, you don't have to do anything huge to make a difference in the world around you. Just something small and simple. And...it seems that people who do little things for others, are some of the happiest people I've ever known. :) So...just do something small for someone from time to time - I promise that it will bring you some degree of joy! :D

Wishing you much happiness in your day, dear reader! ^^

Shout Outs!

I know it's a little cheesy or cliche or something, but I wanted to do a quick shout out to the countries I've gotten views from since starting this thing. :) You guys make me feel special every time I get a view, you have no idea. So thank you so much! <3 I'll list the countries in order of most views to least views, along with "Hello there, and thank you for the views!" in both the official and commonly spoken languages of those countries. ^^ I will tweak my shout out phrase where I need to for translation. :) Here is to hoping that google translate is as accurate as I've been told...and that I did right the right research. ._. I'll also try to do the names of your different countries in your flag colors. :)

ADD-ON: As I have been getting views from new countries, I have just been pinning them on to the end - some of them are technically higher up on the list of "most views"...I'm just too lazy to actually figure the real order out. ^^;; My apologies; but thank you again to you all, beautiful people that you are. <3

A Favorite Location And Hobby #2: Rock-Climbing.

Rock climbing. This is a beloved hobby of mine. :) I honestly prefer free-climbing. I know it's so much more dangerous, but...that's part of what I love about it. I love the thrill of life versus death. Me against nature. Are my skills enough to keep me alive if I slip? I'm an adrenaline junkie, I will not lie. XD However that will likely change whenever it is in life that I'm a wife and mother. :) Anyway. I first got one of my tastes for rock climbing up at a 2-week extreme outdoor camp that a local college put on called Camp WILD. Ohh boy do I have stories from those two weeks! xD It was years ago, but I remember it so well. Hands down, one of the absolute best experiences of my life, if not the best. :) But it was safe, of course. Using ropes and spotters, etc.

I got my first taste for free-climbing at Arches National Park in Moab. Some beautiful scenery there. <3 Super, super hot. Super dry. But breathtaking formations. :) My brother and I started free-climbing different places on the trails. We would go ahead of everyone just so we could free-climb a ways. Wherever we stopped for lunch, it was the same story. Come to think of it...we did do this at Fremont Indian State Park, as well...but I can't recall if that was before or after Moab.... Needless to say. It was one of these trips and we would climb as high as we could with the amount of time we had.

I remember...just feeling so free. The higher I climbed, the more free I felt. To this day, the higher I can climb, the more free I feel...and the less pain I feel. I feel stronger, healthier, when I climb. I just want to go higher and higher and higher. I never want to stop. I never want to go back down. I just want to climb. It is...pure bliss. <3

Eventually we had to come back from these trips. ;)

Thankfully, I live near some huge, gorgeous mountains. <3 And just up a canyon not too far from me is a waterfall that I'm able to go free-climb with my dad in the Summertime. It's beautiful, absolutely breathtaking. <3 I love to free-climb straight up the waterfall "rapids" and then up the side of the waterfall as much as possible.

There does come a point where we have to go off a ways so that we can eventually loop around and get back to climbing along some narrow ridges in order to get to the second level of the falls, and that's amazing. :) It's like walking into another world. <3

What is especially cool about this waterfall is that all along the way, there are fossils. If you know to look for them. ;) There's also obsidian here and there - and a couple large obsidian boulders at the base of the waterfall. Most curious, I must say. :o It intrigues me greatly, and I wish I was qualified to figure out the exact history there. :D Anyway, once you have to go off a ways to loop around...there's actually a point where if you look down, you'll see a fossilized kelp or seaweed or something root forest - it's amazing! :D And then once you get up towards the narrow ledges, there's a small alcove, not quite a cave though, that has crystals in their early stages of formation. :)

It is simply amazing. <3 I love all of the flowers, trees, rivers and streams, insects, critters...just everything.... <3 I love, love, LOVE it up there. <3 It is simply gorgeous, and so freeing for me. <3 To me, this locations is a piece of paradise. :)

I won't include nearly as many pictures as I would like, because of all the technical issues from beforehand. ;) However, I will post one of the Falls. :)

Believe me, I wanted to post pictures up-close of the rapids, of the two different levels, of the fossils, of the crystals...of everything. I just don't want to risk another technical issue with this post at the moment. =/ I may make another post with all of the pictures - I would love to share the true beauty and wonder of this location with you, dear reader! :D But this one picture does, in my opinion, speak volumes of the Falls' beauty. :)

Have a wonderful day, dear reader. ^^

Well. Squiggly Lines.

    I. I am highly displeased at the moment, dear reader. I had a HUGE Blog post in drafts that I was working on for about an hour and a half AND due to some complicated things I don't fully understand (and I'm an amateur computer geek!) lost the WHOLE FREAKING POST. GAH!!! I am not happy. Not one bit. However, I observed that I needed to make an update. So instead of a thought-out update talking about a favorite location and a beloved hobby inclusive of pictures . . .

I give you: Squiggly lines. That I did. Just now. Iiiin Microsoft Paint. Because I'm displeased. Here:

Isn't that just so completely and incomparably exciting? Squiggly lines. Yup. It's one of those nights, dear reader, I apologize. =/

ON a happier night: "TOMB RAIDER"!!!! :D :D :D :D I LOVE and ADORE this new game!!! <3 The only things I don't like about it is that the F-Bomb gets dropped pretty frequently. =/ It seems like a lot of these kinds of games that are otherwise amazing are including that in the dialogue a lot these days.... *sigh* But still. I LOVE it! :D <3

Have a fantastic day, dear reader. And I hope your night is much better than mine turned out to be. ;~;
