Ladies And Gentlemen.

So, I started working (HOORAY!!) at a Hickory Farms kiosk. I LOVE it like crazy. <3 Part of my job is, of course, sampling. :) I took the opportunity one day to do some social experimenting after getting the swing of things.

Half of the time I would say, "Would you like a sample?", "Would you guys like a sample?", and "Would any of you like a sample?" to everyone.

The other half of the time I would instead say, "Would either of you like a sample?" to couples, "Would (any/either) of you ladies like a sample?" to women grouped 2 or more, "Would (any/either) of you gentlemen like a sample?" to men grouped 2 or more, "Would you like a sample, ma'am?" to women on their own, or "Would you and your children like a sample, ma'am?" for women with their children, and "Would you like a sample, sir?" to men on their own.

It may not sound like anything significant, but after that day of experimenting, my dialogue sticks as close to the second grouping as possible. :) Most of the time no one takes a sample, but it doesn't change the effects. Every time someone realized I was talking to them, their postures would unconsciously straighten, they always smile, and they almost always seem to glow a little bit. Elderly individuals will also sometimes nod approvingly, as saying "sir" and "ma'am" as a sign of respect was something their generation were still taught to value. :) There have been a few times that someone will look up at me after a second, seeming to realize I was talking to them. Then they will look at me questioningly, and the moment it registers, they just smile. It makes me so happy. :D There are some times where they say "no" to the sample, but will walk a little closer without thinking about it. Young teens will brighten up immediately, and that especially makes my day. It's hard at that age, and part of that is because it feels like no one takes you seriously and no one respects you, especially adults. So I guess for an adult to address them as an equal in that way makes them happy. :) A few times, someone will see me as they walk by and then when I use "sir", "ma'am", "ladies", or "gentlemen", it doesn't register that I'm talking to them. Once or twice they have been the only person in the area, too. I've noticed that these individuals dress a little more carelessly and slump over a little more than others do. It almost seems like if they do hear me, they must think I couldn't possibly be referring to them because they probably haven't been shown a lot of respect. And...that makes me sad. People need to be uplifted, not weighed down, by others. Unfortunately, that does not always happen.

Words have more power than we may realize. I mean, there are bound to be some of you who already knew this, but there also bound to be some of you who maybe have not given it much thought. I know I personally didn't give the power of words deep thought until recent years, and haven't taken it completely seriously until the last couple of months. :) This experiment, for me, was all of the proof I needed that words do make a difference. It got me thinking that...well, the world would be made better if we started using at least "sir" and "ma'am" in our day-to-day conversations.

Honestly, sometimes I chase people down (...or stalk them for a few aisles...) in a store to tell them that I love their hair or their outfit or something, and I always say "ma'am" or "sir" (usually the first for who I chase down. XD ) before giving the compliment. "Excuse me. Ma'am? I just have to tell you that I love your blouse, it's beautiful!" As soon as I say, "ma'am", they already start to brighten up. It really is a beautiful thing. I can't explain it, why just saying "ma'am" or "sir" makes a difference, and a noticeable one at that, but it does.

So, I have a challenge to issue to everyone who reads this post.

For at least one day, dear reader, address persons you interact with as "sir" or "ma'am". Even the ones you may not think should be called that just because of what they are wearing. Everyone deserves to be respected...and, well, everyone needs it. One word of respect does make a difference. :) As you do this, observe their facial expressions, their postures, and their inner light - before and after. Also pay attention to how you feel. I promise you that you will feel a difference yourself too. :)

If you find the results of your own day's experiment to be satisfactory...maybe you will do it again the next day. ;)

All I know for sure is that I honestly believe the world would be a better place and people could love themselves and others a little more when shown respect or showing respect. Why? Because it feels good.

And...if we can show respect to others, then certainly we can show respect to ourselves. Certainly others will realize they can show respect to those around them, and show respect to themselves. Honestly, we need to be able to feel respect for ourselves...and sometimes we need someone to show respect to us before we can realize that we can do that for ourselves too. We can build each other up.

So let's you and I, dear reader, try and make the world a more positive place to live in by changing a few words in our vocabularies, one conversation at a time. :)

Happy Thanksgiving, dear reader, and have a fantastic day! Do your best to make at least one person, as well as yourself, smile today! :D

Happy [Excessively LATE] Halloween~! (Part 1)

Part 1...because, well, I'm too lazy to sit and think about the Halloween feast for a post right now. XD But I figured I should maybe post my Pirate costume. :) Honestly, this isn't completed yet. Jo wasn't able to complete hers (*tears*) so we decided to go as Pirates next year. XD I was looking forward to photoshooting her~ Her costumes are always incredible~! However, this gives me time to make a treasure chest for us to pose with next year. :) Anyway, I will be tweaking it. For example, I'm going to save up to get a pink underbust corset to use for the costume next year. Aaand probably for every day use. :) I'm thinking of this one, Gothic Lolita Under Bust Steel Boned Stiff Corset from Fanplusfriend Garden. Yup, I so~o just went there. x3 It is pink and has frill at the bottom, and has that criss-cross ribbon thing that I love but don't know the technical name for~<3 AHH. Really, anything Lolita is perfect. :D Anyway, I'll probably tweak some other things too. *shrug* But for putting this costume together 2 or 3 days before Halloween.. Okay. Purchasing the needed items 2 or 3 days before, and making it the night before. >///> It isn't too awful, just needs some tweaking. :)

I will put the concept drawing first, and then the actual photo. Plus some additional ones~

As stated before, my figure doesn't actually look like that.. >///>

Ah...let it be noted that my feet are not actually that big. I found these boots at a thrift store and they were SO PERFECT for Pirate that I HAD to. Plus...they fit my calves just fine. Foot-wise, my toes barely touch the flat part. Anyway, I tried to imitate the pose of my concept art there. Mostly  got it. I will get it next year. xD By the way...I added a dagger...look to the side of my boot.... :)

Just 'cuz I thought this crop looked cool.

THAT DAGGER. It curves with my leg PERFECTLY to fit inside my boot. :D AND THE HANDLE IS SKULLS. AHHH. I kind of love my fake dagger treasure there, if you couldn't tell. ;)

Aand that is my Pirate costume...draft. It is a draft. XD But the best part of it?

I wear this on a pretty regular basis. For lazing around the house, running to the store real quick, going to Wing Chun (until I can pay for a uniform ^^;; ), and over all just if I don't feel like dressing up or am having a day where wearing a loose shirt and tank top sounds nice and comfy. :) And the pink lace at the bottom helps me still feel feminine.

Anyway. That is that. I'm actually going to post another post here in just a few minutes that is also fairly short. Some people observations. :) It has been a while since I've done a more serious post. I have several that have been in drafts for months, but...I just haven't found the time to finish them yet. *sigh* And I'm sorry it took so long to post about Halloween and say, "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!" I'll post about the feast another day. :)

Have a comfy day, dear reader~<3

Recipe Time~! Corn-Free, Sugar-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Wheat-Free, Chocolate-Free Pumpkin Bread! :D

Yup. Corn, sugar, dairy, soy, wheat, and chocolate-free Pumpkin Bread. But not Pumpkin-free. Sorry for any pumpkin allergics out there. Truly, I am. Pumpkin is my comfort food and I can't imagine living without it. :( And if yeast is a problem for anyone, this is also yeast-free. I don't know if pumpkin bread ever calls for yeast, but just in case. :)

So, I'm on a yeast-lifting protocol right now to solve some intestinal and digestive problems I have been having. Some of the things that I've gotten back allergy-wise (such as chocolate) are now off-limits again. Right before Halloween. XD I've had this HUGE meal I have been planning for a month (that had to get moved to tomorrow), and as I have been making it, I've been like, "...I'll just drink my Fo-Ti while you guys eat." I hadn't even realized. It is okay; just some adjusting, and going back to how I was eating before. :)

The one thing I was absolutely looking forward to was the Pumpkin Bread. I had a feeling I could adjust the recipe my Grandma gave me a few years ago to be safe. So I eliminated the chocolate from it too. I think it is a Lionhouse recipe, but I'm not entirely sure.

*Make sure to use organic, safe-for-you ingredients.

Altered Pumpkin Bread
*2/3 C Agave Nectar
1/3 C Shortening
*2 Eggs, well beaten
*1 can of Pumpkin
*1 3/4 C Flour
>>>I used brown rice flour and tapioca starch. For 1 cup of flour, you do 1/2 a cup of brown rice, and 1/2 a cup of tapioca. But use what is safe for you.

*1/2 tsp Baking Soda
*1 tsp Baking Powder
*1 tsp Cinnamon
*1/4 tsp Cloves, ground
>>>I actually accidentally did a full teaspoon of cloves. Turned out great! And I ground up the whole cloves myself. So don't fret if you only have whole cloves. :)

*1/2 tsp Nutmeg
>>>As a note, if you don't have nutmeg, you can use mace, allspice, cloves, or cinnamon to replace. I found that out for a later recipe after I'd run out. XD

*1/2 tsp Salt
>>>I used canning salt, but you can use sea salt too. :) Or regular salt if corn isn't an issue for you.

*1/3 C Buttermilk
>>>I took 1/3 cup of coconut milk (this is especially good for making buttermilk!) and stirred in 1/2 a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, and let it set for several minutes. The minimum is 5 minutes, but I think mine sat for about 15. :) But make sure to use a non-dairy milk that is safe for you; not everyone can have coconut, I know.

(*Optional: 1 package of Chocolate Chips - I didn't use any.)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix agave nectar and shortening together until creamy. Add eggs and pumpkin and stir really well. Mix dry ingredients together in a separate bowl and add to the mixture. Add buttermilk to the mixture and mix really well. (Optional: Add chocolate chips and mix in.) Pour into a greased and lightly floured (again, I used brown rice flour) loaf pan. Sprinkle unsweetened cinnamon over the top, and use spatula to lightly mix into the surface. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until bread tests done. I ended up having to do an hour and a half, but I think that really depends on your oven and where you live. I live at a higher altitude and use an older oven, for example. :) Let it cool on a cooling rack, and at your leisure you can flip it out of the pan. You need to let it cool for at least 10 minutes, but a few hours doesn't affect whether or not it slides out of the pan (...not that I fell asleep or anything). Makes 1 large loaf.

As a note, the loaf is pretty dense. And, I have to say, it is very delicious. <3 I'm excited to serve it tomorrow night...tonight? Friday. It is technically Friday right now, so tonight. I wasn't able to stay awake for Halloween festivities tonight, so we moved the dinner to tonight. :) And for my out-of-country viewers, I will post the recipe in metrics. ^_^ Aaand I hope it is the right measurements. I'm never completely sure when doing conversions. I really wish America used the metric system like the rest of the world.... Anyway. Here goes:

Altered Pumpkin Bread - Metric
*157 ml Agave Nectar
*78 ml Shortening
*2 Eggs, well beaten
*1 can of Pumpkin
*414 ml Flour
>>>I used brown rice flour and tapioca starch. For 236 milliliters of flour, you do 118 milliliters of brown rice, and 118 milliliters of tapioca. But use what is safe for you.

*2 ml Baking Soda
*4 ml Baking Powder
*4 ml Cinnamon
*1 ml Cloves, ground
>>>I actually accidentally did a 4 milliliters of cloves. Turned out great! And I ground up the whole cloves myself. So don't fret if you only have whole cloves. :)

*2 ml Nutmeg
>>>As a note, if you don't have nutmeg, you can use mace, allspice, cloves, or cinnamon to replace. I found that out for a later recipe after I'd run out. XD

*2 ml Salt
>>>I used canning salt, but you can use sea salt too. :) Or regular salt if corn isn't an issue for you.

*78 ml Buttermilk
>>>I took 78 milliliters of coconut milk (this is especially good for making buttermilk!) and stirred in 2 milliliters of apple cider vinegar, and let it set for several minutes. The minimum is 5 minutes, but I think mine sat for about 15. :) But make sure to use a non-dairy milk that is safe for you; not everyone can have coconut, I know.

(*Optional: 1 package of Chocolate Chips - I didn't use any.)

Same instructions. :)

I really hope those are the correct measurements! If anyone happens to know if it is correct or incorrect, please, feel free to leave a comment. ^_^ It would be much appreciated! <3 Also, sorry the pictures aren't super great; I will see about getting a better one later. :)

Have a yummy day, dear reader! <3
