Late Christmas Post

For a late Christmas post...I would like to share some pictures of my kittens from Christmas day. :) They're about 6 months old, and we were wondering how they would react to everything. Artemis (the little girl [the primarily black one]) was helping us open things and chasing strings and bows (and she let us stick some bows on her head). It was funny. XD Archer (the little ((big)) boy [the primarily white one]) was more hesitant to join us. He casually came over and stretched at one point, and grabbed a piece of string we'd tried giving him. But he stayed pretty clear until everything was over, and then, after playing with a laser pointer, snuggled under the tree with his sister. It was cute. :)

I hope their cuteness made you smile. :D

Have a great one!

Strawberries & Almonds...They're Magically Delicious!

So. . .I seem to remember saying something about posting some kinda recipe or something. That's right; I remembered for once. x3 It's a magical salad (and I'm not just saying that because I've associated two of the ingredients with Harry Potter!) - magically delicious! Okay. Done with the Lucky Charms and Harry Potter stuff here. -///- I'm starting to annoy myself. Anyway, it really is a delicious salad. :D

It's from a recipe book called, "Robyn's Healthy Family Favorites" - except with almonds instead of pecans (<--my dad is allergic to pecans). Thank you, Robyn, for this recipe. ...Or, I think that's the author's name..? *double-checks* Yup. Robyn Openshaw. Apparently my mom uses her recipe books a lot; she's got some good ones~ I highly recommend. ^^ I'll use (*) to comment with what my family does different.

Spinach Strawberry Salad
2 bags spinach, washed and torn into pieces
4 C sliced strawberries
1/2 C raw pecans (*we do toasted almond slices)
1/2 C extra virgin olive oil (*we sometimes use grapeseed oil)
1/2 C white wine vinegar
1/4 C raw honey
1/4 tsp paprika
1 Tbsp poppy seeds
optional: 2-3 Tbsp pureed strawberries or raspberries (*we don't do this part)
optional: 1/8 tsp basil (*we do use)
(*sometimes we add Stevia to the dressing, to taste)

Toss spinach, strawberries, and pecans. Whisk oil and other ingredients together, pour over salad mixture, and toss.

This. This is my favorite salad...I love it! :D Anyway. So that's the recipe I mentioned, and it's yummy~ Enjoy! ^^

Have a great one!

I'm A Drow!! (Photo Edit)

I was working on some video projects today for some friends. (I put together a "Friend DVD" for them for Christmas every year. Just kind of highlights of the year through photos or videos, etc. ^^) The program kept acting up and, after several hours, I decided I needed to take a break before I...did something to the laptop I may later regret.... >.>''

I had a dream last night that I was my D&D character, Xen'va Torkak - a Drow. She. She is such a beast. xD So, depending on your most common intake of fantasy: Drow, Dunmer, or Dark Elf. Most commonly recognized as Dark Elves I believe. It's the "slang term" in D&D and Skyrim settings. Anyway.

So I kinda had Xen'va on the mind. I know that I could never look anything like her...but I thought maybe I could edit a photo of me to look like an Drow nonetheless. =3 I know that there are a lot of areas that could be improved - particularly the ear. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to do better than I did at my current skill levels. Either that, or I'm just too lazy. *shrugs* Way I see it: It's all playing around and seeing what works and what doesn't work. As long as I make progress along the way, I'm good to go. This is a lot better than I could have done even a month ago (sadly). (I copied and pasted [and stuff] the ear to this photo off of another photo of me from Halloween a few years ago~)

Without further ado! Here's the edit:

I must say, I'd make a pretty good Drow. Maybe that's just me. Except...with white hair. -///- I couldn't get the program to do white hair without it being a complete disaster. Someday, I might figure that one out. The things that were altered were my hair, eyes, lips, skin, fake roses (a little), clothing, and the ribbon around my neck, and the heart (a little).

Anyway. Sorry it's another photo edit. I wanted to make sure to update the Blog so I don't forget about it again, but...I didn't feel like thinking on anything in particular. XD

Have a great one! :D

Wearing A Mask.

I had an interesting experience yesterday. So, I have a ridiculous amount of allergies. Seriously, it would take at least a paragraph to list them all off. Unfortunately, my reactions can go anywhere from a bothersome, extreme headache to hives to paralyzed limbs to my throat closing, and anything/everything in between. Yay~?

So, I get times where I'm sicker and weaker than others. When I get like that, I have to stay inside for a period of time. This last time, it's been for about a month. I haven't been able to leave the house hardly at all - I went outside in the early, early morning a few weeks ago to take a few photos. That's just about it. So yesterday was my first day out in a month! It was amazing to be out of the house. :D But I'm still sick enough that it would be best if I didn't. What's the catch? I had to wear a breathing mask.

An unusual thing where I live. I happen to enjoy what I refer to as "social experiments" - doing something that breaks the social norm in my area and see what people's reactions are. I dyed my hair hot pink for a day a number of years ago and got some interesting reactions. This time, though, the "experiment" was necessary to my well-being. If it wasn't necessary for me to wear a breathing mask, I probably wouldn't. It would feel like I was making fun of someone who had to if I did. But I had to. So! I took advantage of the opportunity to observe how people reacted. I wanted to share my observations.

The most common reaction was staring. They simply stared at me, even as they were walking past; their heads would turn to continue to stare at me as long as possible. I met eye-contact a few times and just smiled. Thankfully, I'm one of those people that you can tell when they smile just by looking at their eyes. My eyes "scrunch up" when I do, and I get little lines on the outside of my eyes - the bigger the smile, the more noticeable. Same thing when I laugh. Anyway. So I just smiled at them. A few continued to stare. A small handful made an awkward attempt to smile back. A lot quickly looked away, but glanced back out of the corner of their eyes.

My favorite reactions were from children. Children will be children. :) So of course they were staring, trying to figure out why I looked so different. One child came into the store not too long after my mom and I, following his Papa and two siblings. This particular one was about two. He was following his family and then looked up at my mom when he walked past her, and then me. He stopped and stared for a minute, while shouting out to his family. Then he kept going, staring up the whole time. They passed us a couple of times, and each time this little boy would stare up at me. One of the times I waved at him, and he came to a complete stop and stared up at my for several minutes, still shouting out to his family. It made me laugh. :) His Papa wasn't phased at all by my mask, just smiled and nodded for a quick "hello".

The other one that I noted in particular was from another two year old. Maybe three. His Mama was holding him and showing him a little shirt (we were looking at baby clothes, as we were getting some for friends). Anyway, she smiled at us and the pointed at the shirt and went, "What's that? Do you know what that is?" (Pointing to the picture of a monkey on it.) The little boy was sucking his thumb and staring at me. He furrowed his eyebrows, looked at the shirt then looked at me, pointed and said, "What's that?" We laughed and told him it was a mask. So funny! Kids are hysterical; I love how honest they are. :)

Another trend I noticed with most mothers was that they would usher their kids away from the area as quickly as possible. A few mothers honest-to-goodness got their kids into another aisle and would watch me until I left, and then let the kids go back to what they were doing. One mother was in front of us at a check-out. I put my stuff down, saw in my peripheral that her little boy (no older than a year) was staring up at me. When I looked up, I looked up at her to see her also staring. I smiled and held up my hand to indicate "hello". (Wearing a mask really muffles ones voice.) Then I looked back to my things to make sure I had them where I wanted them, and then looked over to her boy. I waved at him, and he went back to play with a toy truck in his hand. I looked back up and his mother had a look of pure disgust on her face. She quickly moved in front of him to shield him from me, like I was a diseased person.

One couple I noticed in particular at yet another store were walking towards us, a few aisles down. When the woman spotted me, she stared and then laughed. Then she turned and said something to the man. He looked confused. After a second, she pulled him to the other side of some boxes as they walked past. She continued to stare at me. I made eye-contact with the both of them. What the woman was thinking, I can't be sure. But she almost seemed...hateful. The man she was with had an apologetic expression.

There was a pair of sisters not too long after, not even three minutes after, that spotted me and laughed before looking down and hurrying past.

People with some disability or another would just get the biggest smiles on their faces. Smiles of understanding, reassurance, and excitement. The excitement I believe was for, "You get me!" ...I really feel like I do on some levels. It makes me sad to think that someone with a disability would get those kinds of reactions from people on a daily basis. But, sadly, I think they probably do. I noticed that they were a lot less...well, before when I'd see someone disabled in a store, I'd make sure to smile at them. Sometimes they'd smile back, but a lot of times they seemed to just keep to themselves - some of them even felt confrontational to a degree. They weren't yesterday. I think the attitudes I've observed before probably come from being treated so badly. ._. Staring, laughter, shunning.

I knew before I went out that I'd probably get stared at a little. I wasn't fully prepared for the extremities of some of the reactions. Honestly, I felt hurt. >.> I...wanted glare a few times by the end of the day. I didn't, but I wanted to. I'm not diseased. I have to wear a mask right now so that I don't wind up bed-ridden for some weeks. Even wearing a mask didn't prevent some allergic reactions. But I was treated like I was something...I don't even know how to describe it. And I think it was a little worse than it could have been, because I can pick up on vibes from people very easily. It's hard to explain...I guess..."intuition" comes closest? Anyway, it just means I have an easier time telling something about a person; emotions and attitudes are not hard to discern. I probably could have had my eyes closed and told you what people were feeling towards me.

Anyway, continuing with more positive reactions. I noticed, not to sound like I'm stereotyping or something, but I noticed that...ah...I don't know how to put it non-offensively. -///- I mean, I don't mean to offend - and I don't know that it would be offensive. But...I don't want to sound like some ignorant, stereotyping white girl. You know? *sigh* I'm sorry if the following is offensive at all, I don't intend for it to be. I'm simply stating observation.

Persons from Asia, I think specifically China, didn't give me bad reactions. But I got a few confused looks, like, "Hey! But why?" - so not bad-confused. A few looked contemplative after seeing me. None stared. The reactions were usually very friendly, for which I am grateful. ^^ After noticing this at a few stores, my mom and I were looking at baby clothes again (as I said, baby clothes shopping for friends; this was before the store where the little boy that asked what was on my face). We ran into this lady there, who was super friendly. After an exchange of some comments, she came back and said to me, "I hope you don't feel bad having to wear a mask! My son is asthmatic and he had to wear a mask for a long time." And she told us a little bit about that, and how at some point when he was a child they were at the Zoo. This kid was staring at him, and out of frustration her son finally went, "What?! Haven't you seen someone wear a mask before?" The kid hadn't. So her son replied something like, "Well now you have, quit staring!" We all laughed. Then she went on to tell me that I'd fit right in over in China. Apparently she'd been in China for several weeks a year ago, and she said it's a fashion statement over there. Except they use cute material. :) So I found that interesting, and thought to myself, "Oh! Maybe that's why I've noticed those expressions!" ...I'm so jealous though; a cute mask would make wearing one a lot more fun. XD

And then there were some other people that gave me understanding, and even sympathetic, looks. One of them was a girl who had overheard my mom asking if I was doing alright with the smells and I'd told her the mask was helping a lot. We were leaving the store at the same time, and she smiled at me. Another one was actually a mother. The other two I remember were cashiers. The expressions were almost like, "I've got a family member or friend that's going through something too."

I dunno. It was very interesting. I learned more than I thought I would. Honestly, I left the house not thinking I would come home having learnt something.

So...dear reader, I have a request to make of you. If you see someone in your day-to-day lives that's different from a disability or something - please, please just smile at them. Don't laugh, stare, or shun. Just smile, wave, and be friendly. But don't stare. That can be someone in a wheelchair, with a walker or cane, someone with down-syndrome or low-functioning autism, someone with a hearing aid, someone with...gosh, just anything. Really, it would be nice to be friendly to everyone - you never know what someone is going through. But I feel like maybe people that are more obviously in distress are met with unkind attitudes. I would so very much appreciate that you smile at these individuals. I know it was a nice change of pace for me when someone smiled at me instead of staring. I can't imagine what relief that would be to someone who deals with that unkindness daily.

And if you happen to be a parent - please. Please teach your children to be kind. I beg of you, don't be that parent who hides their kids an aisle over and watches until the "odd" person has left before letting their kids go back to what they were doing. That's teaching fear, prejudice, and cruelty. Please don't do that. :( Please teach them kindness, respect, and that they don't have anything to fear from someone who's "different". The world would be a better place if those things were taught.

Because no one is different. No one. We are all human beings at the end of the day. Why should anyone be treated differently than another?

Thank you, and have a great one! ^^

The Truth About Blondes.

Dearest reader, whether you be blonde or brunette or have black hair or red hair, you are welcome to this post. I'm here to talk about why (natural) blondes aren't...dumb. We are simply "blissfully ignorant". Or, so we appear. I'll have you know that we know more than you might think we do~ Well, most of us. There's the occasional dumb blonde that's really, honest-to-goodness, as dumb as he or she appears to be. -///-  Thank you, for fueling the stereotype.

Now, we can use the stereotype to our advantage. Act totally idiotic and then BAM! blow the world's minds away with how smart we really are. "Wait...you can read???" Yup. Indeed we can. We can even tie our own shoelaces. Gasps of shock and amazement will now be accepted.

Why is it, though, that it's "dumb blonde"? Why not "dumb brunette"? Yes, I'm sorry brunettes...I'm turning it on you. I already call my friends "dumb brunettes" when they call me a "dumb blonde". Teasingly, of course! I don't believe in saying something like that to be hurtful and mean. Just playful. =3 But, no, seriously. Why not some other hair color? What is it about blondes? And have you ever noticed that for the females, the more feminine they dress, the dumber they're assumed to be..? Like, seriously: What's up with that?

The Sun is yellow, so we must have our heads in the clouds. Dirt is brown, which means brunettes are more grounded. Is that it? And what of those of us with blue eyes? No! You can't see the sky through our heads, therefore indicating the lack of a brain! That's just mean. D=

If anything, I think it indicates our potential. "The sky's the limit!" - our hair is the same color as the Sun...some of us have the same colored eyes as the sky.... I think that just means we can exceed the limit. That's right. We can be astronauts. Well, anyone can really.... I just like to talk up being blonde. >.>

It actually really is a pretty great thing. If I do something a little dorky or stupid, I have a built-in excuse. Say I pick up a stack of books, trip, and the books go flying across the floor. Stand up and laugh sheepishly, "I'm a blonde! I meant to do that!" It makes it a little less embarrassing. A brunette (or any other hair color) can't say that...nor can a brunette truly get away with saying, "Blonde moment!" It just makes you look as dumb as us. I'm sorry, but it does.

I also feel like we have a better chance at good grades in school (at least High School level and lower). If the teacher isn't a blonde, they may subconsciously be thinking the blonde students aren't up to the same level as the rest of the students. So they'll go a little easier. We can take advantage of that assumption.  Breeze through the year until the day comes where there's the assignment that's really difficult...and when we turn in the work, the teacher goes, "That's incredible! I'd expect that from one of the other, smarter students!" And they're just so baffled. You get 100%, and then they wave it off as a "fluke" and don't raise the expectations. After all, you are a blonde. "It was just luck!"

It's the same thing in social situations. They don't expect much from you, and then comes a point where you say something intelligent and it really wows everyone. "They're smarter than they look..." - oh yes. Yes we are. But, I mean, it certainly takes some of the pressure off in meeting new people. They don't expect to be impressed if they're a non-blonde a good percentage of the time. So you don't have to stress yourself in thinking about what to say. You just say what comes to mind, crack some jokes, and you've got a new buddy. Lovely.

So...therefore...I propose that it isn't the blondes that are dumb. But, rather, it's the brunettes. (Black hair...too good of a color to make fun of. Same with red hair. Ya just can't. Brunettes on the other hand~ There's a lot of them.) Therefore, seeing that brunettes make up most of the population (at least around where I am)...it's their loss. They think they're making fun of us. Oh, so wrong! No, no, dear brunettes, you just make life easier for us blondes. At least, the ones who realize the potential of accepting and playing up the stereotype.

Therefore, my fellow blondes! The next time a brunette calls you a "dumb blonde"...jokingly go, "Yeah, you dumb brunette!" It may baffle them at first, but it can be fun. Then again...if we switched it to "dumb brunette"...we lose our edge, our advantage.... Maybe that's what they want, is for us to try and switch it up. So that they can breeze through things. We mustn't allow that to happen! But, eh. It is fun to tease a brunette friend...so whatever. xD

Anyway. Not much of a point to all this. Just felt like typing. So I typed. And got this. Enjoy. =3

Have a good one!

I'm A Faerie!! (Photo Edit)

Umm...so...yeah. I had to share this because I am just such a dork. Seriously. I love fantasy! And I've always had a particular fondness for different Fae types; Faeries specifically. Anyway...I've been developing my photo editing skills over the last few years. I feel like this is the best photo editing job I've done! Like, seriously. I love it.

Usually, an artist has a lot of minor details that they aren't fond of with their final work, and fuss over it. Wow...I'm calling myself an artist...weird.... Huh. Right. So. Usually it's like that. I'm no exception! But there are only two things with this that I've noticed so far that I'm not fond of - and guess what?! Ah ha! I'm not so upset about them that I'm not satisfied with this edit!

On the contrary; I'm...well...I'm quite proud of this. :) Which is why I decided to be a dork and share it here. I really am so happy with how it turned out.

    Without further ado:

To tell a bit about the edit, "This edit was for fun. It took me a few hours to do; I got the wings off of a picture of a Monarch  Butterfly I took some time ago, and after 'gluing' them to the image and situating them correctly, I edited them to these colors. Technically, it's the same wing on each side, haha. Anyway. It was fun. Took a long while but I enjoyed doing the edit - and I am rather pleased with how the final product turned out. :D "

   And that is that. xD

Have a great one! ^^

Strawberry Sorting Hat!

Wow! So apparently strawberries are magical, not just almonds. xD And, y'know, that Harry Potter almond would indeed need a Sorting Hat. So why not a strawberry? =3 Strawberries and almonds taste good together, by the way, in the correct salad. A magical combination indeed. I'm just sayin'. <3 Anyway. Here's that strawberry! (Maybe I'll post that salad recipe sometime!)

Honestly.

Honestly, I forget I have a Blog. I don't know how on Earth it is that I remember, but somehow I do. And then I go, "Oh dang it! I have to update that thing!" And then I forget. Or I'm just too lazy. Or both. There's that too.

So...I was reading through some of my older posts and kind of went, "I'm crazy...*face-palm*." while simultaneously realizing that there are a ton of things I said in previous posts that I would later post about and never did.

However~! I am determined. I shall post about what I said I would post about! >.< As soon as I make a list of those things. Maybe I'll do that here. Yes, that's a good idea...I think I shall....

1. Favorite animes and mangas. (OoOo...sounds like a fun post~!)

2. 25 things to do with a post-it note, thing #2. xD

3. Hobby #2..? (Uhh....)

4. D&D, and/or D&D stories.

5. Apparently something about my double-jointed fingers..? (Man! I promise to post about some odd things~)

6. My kittens. <3

7. Post-Apocalypse supplies.

8. ...Uhh....

There isn't an 8. Well okay then! So. Eventually-someday-maybe-not-too-long-from-now-but-most-likely-very-far-away-because-I'm-forgetful I shall post about these things. =3

Well this list is basically for me. xD So Imma post about something else right after this that may or may not amuse you, dear reader. I don't know what you find amusing. But you may find it amusing, though you also may not. A strawberry...that looks like the Sorting Hat (and was...*pause for dramatic effect*...delicious)...as soon as I find my camera!

Have a good one! :D

PS: And furthermore! About my apparent craziness! It can't be helped, I'm sorry. But it may just be me thinking I sound crazy.... Talking about spiders eating my toes.... Goll.... *referring to the "Silent War" post*

About A Fan Tribute To Master Chief and Cortana From "Halo"!!

OhMyGosh, I hope this works~! I've never tried to attach a link to a post before!

I recently had the absolute pleasure of watching this video! (<---Link provided at the end of this post.) It's a beautifully done tribute to Master Chief and Cortana from the Halo video game series. Just loved it! <3 I wanted to try and help spread the video around somehow, because it is just so amazing (in my opinion, at any rate). I feel like any and every Halo fan should see this! It's quite emotional; the creator of the video usually likes to do his videos timed to the music...but this was a new approach for him to make a more emotional-based video. Gosh, I dunno that I even said that right. Forgive that, please! I don't do him justice by any means. ^^;; Anyway, he also experimented with some aspects of different audio files to add to the overall effect of the video.

(I won't pretend to know the more technical terms/phrases; sorry for my ignorance. >.< )

The song that this tribute is done to is "Who Wants To Live Forever?" by Queen - the song was originally made for the Highlander movie, I believe. But it fits these characters so well! Wow! I hope that if you're a Halo fan, you'll take the time to watch this, and maybe share it with any Halo friends you might have! Just a beautiful video. <3 My highest regards to the creator; can't wait to see what else he does in the future! ^^

   Creator/youtube channel: GhostHunter101

He's got some other awesome videos as well, should you feel inclined to check him out. :) This fellow does have a very natural talent for this sort of a thing. Unfortunately, he doesn't get many views. You know, because there's so many videos to sift through...the good ones always get overlooked. Like, "If you've seen one, you've seen them all." - not true!! Well, not completely. I swear this guy does amazing work on all of his videos. So brilliant!

Of course, I might be biased. ;) But, for real, at least give him a chance and watch this beautiful, wonderful tribute to Master Chief and Cortana! <3

Please don't let my lack of...accurate?...words prevent you from watching it. ^^;; I tend to be repetitive, and less verbally appropriate, when excited about something. (Because did I mention the word "beautiful" yet..? ;) ) So you should just see for yourself! =3

Thanx! Have a great day! :)
