Dearest reader, whether you be blonde or brunette or have black hair or red hair, you are welcome to this post. I'm here to talk about why (natural) blondes aren't...dumb. We are simply "blissfully ignorant". Or, so we appear. I'll have you know that we know more than you might think we do~ Well, most of us. There's the occasional dumb blonde that's really, honest-to-goodness, as dumb as he or she appears to be. -///- Thank you, for fueling the stereotype.
Now, we can use the stereotype to our advantage. Act totally idiotic and then BAM! blow the world's minds away with how smart we really are. "Wait...you can read???" Yup. Indeed we can. We can even tie our own shoelaces. Gasps of shock and amazement will now be accepted.
Why is it, though, that it's "dumb blonde"? Why not "dumb brunette"? Yes, I'm sorry brunettes...I'm turning it on you. I already call my friends "dumb brunettes" when they call me a "dumb blonde". Teasingly, of course! I don't believe in saying something like that to be hurtful and mean. Just playful. =3 But, no, seriously. Why not some other hair color? What is it about blondes? And have you ever noticed that for the females, the more feminine they dress, the dumber they're assumed to be..? Like, seriously: What's up with that?
The Sun is yellow, so we must have our heads in the clouds. Dirt is brown, which means brunettes are more grounded. Is that it? And what of those of us with blue eyes? No! You can't see the sky through our heads, therefore indicating the lack of a brain! That's just mean. D=
If anything, I think it indicates our potential. "The sky's the limit!" - our hair is the same color as the Sun...some of us have the same colored eyes as the sky.... I think that just means we can exceed the limit. That's right. We can be astronauts. Well, anyone can really.... I just like to talk up being blonde. >.>
It actually really is a pretty great thing. If I do something a little dorky or stupid, I have a built-in excuse. Say I pick up a stack of books, trip, and the books go flying across the floor. Stand up and laugh sheepishly, "I'm a blonde! I meant to do that!" It makes it a little less embarrassing. A brunette (or any other hair color) can't say that...nor can a brunette truly get away with saying, "Blonde moment!" It just makes you look as dumb as us. I'm sorry, but it does.
I also feel like we have a better chance at good grades in school (at least High School level and lower). If the teacher isn't a blonde, they may subconsciously be thinking the blonde students aren't up to the same level as the rest of the students. So they'll go a little easier. We can take advantage of that assumption. Breeze through the year until the day comes where there's the assignment that's really difficult...and when we turn in the work, the teacher goes, "That's incredible! I'd expect that from one of the other, smarter students!" And they're just so baffled. You get 100%, and then they wave it off as a "fluke" and don't raise the expectations. After all, you are a blonde. "It was just luck!"
It's the same thing in social situations. They don't expect much from you, and then comes a point where you say something intelligent and it really wows everyone. "They're smarter than they look..." - oh yes. Yes we are. But, I mean, it certainly takes some of the pressure off in meeting new people. They don't expect to be impressed if they're a non-blonde a good percentage of the time. So you don't have to stress yourself in thinking about what to say. You just say what comes to mind, crack some jokes, and you've got a new buddy. Lovely.
So...therefore...I propose that it isn't the blondes that are dumb. But, rather, it's the brunettes. (Black hair...too good of a color to make fun of. Same with red hair. Ya just can't. Brunettes on the other hand~ There's a lot of them.) Therefore, seeing that brunettes make up most of the population (at least around where I am)...it's their loss. They think they're making fun of us. Oh, so wrong! No, no, dear brunettes, you just make life easier for us blondes. At least, the ones who realize the potential of accepting and playing up the stereotype.
Therefore, my fellow blondes! The next time a brunette calls you a "dumb blonde"...jokingly go, "Yeah, you dumb brunette!" It may baffle them at first, but it can be fun. Then again...if we switched it to "dumb brunette"...we lose our edge, our advantage.... Maybe that's what they want, is for us to try and switch it up. So that they can breeze through things. We mustn't allow that to happen! But, eh. It is fun to tease a brunette friend...so whatever. xD
Anyway. Not much of a point to all this. Just felt like typing. So I typed. And got this. Enjoy. =3
Have a good one!
