Yes, I am posting about ducks! :D Haha, it was just so fun to go walk around a local park and watch them this past Sunday. It was so interesting; it is mating time for them right now. So we saw some interesting things. There were ducks walking around in pairs, almost like dates, and some couples sitting in the shade. They were also swimming around in pairs in the pond.
There was one female duck we saw, she was very beautiful, who had two males following her around. At a few points, she would be going along with one on each side of her, and she would sometimes follow and watch them. By the time we left the park, there was only one left, she we think she chose her mate. :) It was funny.
At another point, we saw a pair walking around and then these two other males came along. The original male more-or-less fought them off and then jumped on her back to indicate, "This is my woman!" and the other two backed off.
A few minutes later, we saw a couple walking along. The female, we realized, was very far along with their egg/s, as her abdominal area was just about dragging along the ground because it was hanging so low. She would periodically open her beak, and just keep it open without making any noise. Her male was following along, almost seeming frantic. Whenever they got close to other ducks, he would rush ahead of her and clear a path by making them move. We were sitting here going, "Wonder if she's going into duck-labor?" After a few minutes, they wound up in the pond and she started drinking some water, and he stayed very close to her. It was so sweet to watch. :)
Anyway, not much point to this. I just found it all so interesting. :D I've always loved observing bird behaviors, and this is the first time I've gotten to observe ducks during mating season.
Oh, and uh, here is a picture of a male duck and goose just hanging out. We were joking around that they were female watching. "Hey man, what do you think of her?" - "She's hot! Definitely a 10, dude. You should ask her to lay your eggs."
Haha, have a good day, dear reader. :)
